Polaryx Therapeutics reported cash and cash equivalents of $11.542 million at 2026-06-30, up from $5.143 million at the end of 2025 after a $10 million private placement in May. The company filed its quarterly report on 2026-08-13.

Polaryx estimates its cash will fund operating expenses and capital spending through the first quarter of 2027. It says it will need to raise additional capital beyond that point, and that conditions raise substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.

The details

Operating cash use was $3.432 million in the six months to 2026-06-30, against $1.567 million a year earlier. The first-quarter report showed $2.063 million for the three months to 2026-03-31, so second-quarter use was $1.369 million (our arithmetic).

The six-month net loss was $3.9 million, down from $6.1 million. The 2025 figure included about $4.3 million of stock-based compensation for 3,704,307 shares issued in March 2025 to two existing stockholders in return for an exclusive gene therapy patent license. Second-quarter research and development expenses rose to $719 thousand from $476 thousand, mainly because of $263 thousand of contract research costs for SOTERIA, the company said.

Working capital was $10.9 million at 2026-06-30. The company warns that its estimate is based on assumptions that may prove wrong, and that it could exhaust its capital sooner than expected.

Context

Polaryx has no products approved for sale and has had net losses and negative operating cash flow since inception. Its lead candidate, PLX-200, is an oral repurposed small molecule for rare pediatric lysosomal storage diseases. The SOTERIA phase 2 basket trial will test it in CLN2, CLN3, Krabbe disease and Sandhoff disease. In July 2026 the company expanded the planned enrollment from 18 to 24 participants.

The annual report for 2025 also stated substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern. Operating cash use in 2025 was $3.944 million.

What it means for investors

The cash runway is short. The first quarter of 2027 ends about seven and a half months after the filing date, and SOTERIA had not started when the report was filed. The company enlarged the planned trial in July, and it has said it will need new money to keep operating beyond early 2027.

The May placement gave Polaryx about $9.8 million net. Any new equity raise would add shares to the 49,845,993 outstanding at 2026-07-31; the company has not said how or when it will raise. The going-concern statement is the company's own warning on this point.

What to watch

Polaryx expects to start SOTERIA in the second half of 2026. Its next quarterly report, for the period to 2026-09-30, will update the cash balance and the funding estimate.
