CRISPR Therapeutics has its product; the bet now is one-time liver editing
CRISPR Therapeutics has an approved product with fast-rising sales and enough cash to fund years of work. Its larger value case rests on one-time liver editing for common heart disease, where the data are encouraging but come from very few patients.

Payments from companies never affect it. How the rank works.
- Technology
- Proven ex vivo, promising in vivo. Casgevy is approved, and one CTX310 infusion cut LDL 53% on average at one year in a small trial.
- Odds
- Early outside Casgevy. Most programs are in phase 1, where base rates put approval odds near 8%.
- Balance sheet
- Well funded. The company held $2.36 billion at June 30, 2026, against a $91.2 million quarterly loss.
- Main risk
- Unproven one-time editing. A late safety signal in liver editing would hit CTX310, CTX340 and CTX460 together.
- Watch next
- AHA late-breaker on November 9. Phase 1b CTX310 data will show whether a fixed dose gives consistent results.

Fact-check-o-meter
Messaging tracks the filings; the real caveats are that CTX310 is early and Casgevy sales are not CRISPR's revenue
CRISPR Therapeutics' second-quarter release and 10-Q agree on cash and the note proceeds, and the 10-Q alone gives the runway and the legal record. The main things to keep in view are not gaps between documents: the CTX310 efficacy data come from a 15-person open-label dose-escalation study whose primary endpoint was safety, and the $76 million Casgevy figure is Vertex-booked revenue, not the company's own.
Science · weight medium
CTX310: open-label, 15 participants, safety was the primary endpoint
The company said: "a mean reduction from baseline of 79% (maximum 89%), a mean reduction in triglycerides (TG) of 48% (maximum 78%), and a mean reduction of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) of 53% (maximum 84%) at the highest dose" source
The record says: The same release says phase 1a "was an open label, dose-escalation trial" in which doses were given to "15 participants across sequential cohorts", and that the trial "was designed to evaluate safety and tolerability as primary endpoints, with changes in circulating ANGPTL3 protein, TG, and LDL as secondary endpoints." The ongoing CTX310 trial record on ClinicalTrials.gov is single group with no masking and a primary outcome of dose-limiting toxicities and adverse events up to 12 months. source
Our view: The release is upfront about the design. The headline figures are means at the top dose from a small, uncontrolled group, and the mean-to-maximum gaps (53% versus 84% for LDL) show wide spread between patients. The text reviewed does not say how many participants received the top dose, which matters for how much weight 53% can bear.

Casgevy's $76 million is Vertex-booked; CRISPR reported $10.2 million of revenue
The company said: "CASGEVY generated second quarter 2026 revenue of $76 million, representing 78% growth quarter-over-quarter and 151% growth year-over-year." source
The record says: The 10-Q income statement shows total revenue of $10,181 thousand for the quarter, of which collaboration revenue was $10,000 thousand and grant revenue $181 thousand. It also shows "$40.3 million" of collaboration expense, net, related to the Vertex Hemoglobinopathy Agreements. The release explains the profit split in its collaboration description: "Vertex and CRISPR Therapeutics share profits and program costs on a 60/40 basis." source
Our view: The release is accurate and says elsewhere that Vertex commercializes the drug. A skimming reader could still take $76 million as the company's top line. CRISPR still carried a net collaboration expense in the quarter, so Casgevy has not yet turned into a profit contribution in these statements.

Cash and runway: the release gives the balance, the 10-Q gives the runway and the debt
The company said: "The increase in cash was primarily driven by net proceeds of $585.4 million from the issuance of convertible senior notes in March 2026, offset by operating expenses." source
The record says: The 10-Q puts cash, equivalents and marketable securities at $2,364.4 million, with about $308.1 million held outside the United States, and says the company expects them "will enable us to fund our operating expenses and capital expenditures for at least the next 24 months without giving effect to any additional proceeds we may receive under our license agreements and collaborations". The notes are $600.0 million in principal, unsecured, and mature on March 1, 2031 unless earlier converted, redeemed or repurchased. source
Our view: The two documents agree, and neither contains going-concern language. The release does not state a runway; the 10-Q's 24 months is the only stated runway, and it excludes any partner proceeds.
Legal and disclosure record · weight low
ToolGen patent suit: company dismissed without prejudice in April 2026
The record says: Item 1 of the Q2 2026 10-Q says that "in the fourth quarter of 2025, ToolGen, Inc., or ToolGen, initiated a lawsuit against us and other third parties alleging patent infringement by CASGEVY of a ToolGen patent relating to CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology. We were subsequently dismissed from the lawsuit as a defendant in April 2026 without prejudice." It adds that "There are currently no claims or actions pending against us that, in the opinion of our management, are likely to have a material adverse effect on our business." The 10-K (filed February 12, 2026) Item 3 describes the same suit and says patent offices may host inter partes proceedings on its intellectual property. No securities litigation or enforcement is disclosed in the latest filing. The filing does not name the court. source
Our view: A dismissal without prejudice means the claim could in principle be refiled, and the 10-Q says the outcome of such matters is inherently uncertain. Nothing else is disclosed as pending.
