Incyte has the cash and two years to replace Jakafi
Incyte is profitable and cash-rich, but still depends on Jakafi for most of its sales and has about two years to build replacements. Its Q2 growth was boosted by a one-time CMS settlement item. Pipeline decisions in the first quarter of 2027 and the Vega, Genesis and Edison deals will show whether the transition works.

- Technology
- Proven franchise, wider pipeline. Jakafi and Opzelura are established JAK products, and Incyte is adding povorcitinib, a mutCALR antibody and a KRAS G12D inhibitor.
- Odds
- Near-term decisions are scheduled. Povorcitinib and Monjuvi both have U.S. approvals targeted for Q1 2027, while the mutCALR program is earlier-stage.
- Balance sheet
- Strong and profitable. Incyte held $4.5 billion at June 30 and reported $585.6 million of GAAP net income in Q2, though a $1.27 billion Vega charge arrives in Q3.
- Main risk
- Jakafi cliff. Jakafi was 71% of 2025 net product revenue and loses exclusivity between late 2028 and early 2029.
- Watch next
- Q4 readouts and ESMO. Opzelura HS and povorcitinib prurigo nodularis phase 3 data are due in Q4 2026, with ESMO presentations Oct. 23-27.

Under it, Incyte will let state Medicaid programs buy Jakafi and Jakafi XR at prices aligned with a defined group of other advanced nations. Fact-check-o-meter
Incyte's numbers hold up, but the releases skip the 2028 Jakafi patent expiry
Incyte's 2026 releases match its 10-Q on the figures, and the one-time Opzelura benefit is disclosed up front. The gaps are in emphasis: the growth story leaves out the 2028 Jakafi patent expiry the filing calls out, and the newest hematology asset rests so far on an open-label, single-arm phase 3 design.
Press release vs filing · weight low
Headline growth leans on a one-time CMS benefit
The company said: "Total revenue of $1.67 billion and total net sales of $1.49 billion in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 38% and 40%, respectively, compared to the second quarter of 2025" source
The record says: The 10-Q says the quarter's Opzelura sales include a one-time, non-cash benefit of $246.0 million from the agreement with CMS "to resolve our litigation related to the application of Medicaid rebate rules to OPZELURA", tied to "the reversal of previously established accrual balances through March 31, 2026". source
Our view: This is disclosed fairly. The release's second bullet gives the 17% growth figure without the benefit, and the 38% headline includes the benefit.
Press release vs filing · weight medium
Growth message, no mention of the 2028 Jakafi patent expiry
The company said: "With ten data readouts expected in the second half of 2026, alongside product launches through early next year, we are well positioned for our next phase of growth." source
The record says: The 10-Q risk factors state: "we expect that JAKAFI product sales will begin to decline upon the expiration of our patent exclusivity in 2028." Jakafi was $817 million of the quarter's $1.49 billion in net sales, and the filing adds that patent suits against several generic filers "remain pending." source
Our view: The Q2 release never mentions 2028 or the pending generic suits. Jakafi was about 55% of the quarter's net sales, and the filing ties its expected decline to 2028, which the release's growth message does not mention.

Povorcitinib wins in vitiligo, but fewer than 1 in 5 responded
The company said: "In STOP-V1, 18.9% of povorcitinib-treated patients achieved a >75% reduction in F-VASI75 compared to 6.8% of placebo-treated patients at Week 52 (p<0.001)." source
The record says: ClinicalTrials.gov lists STOP-V1 as randomized and triple-masked with 467 participants, and the primary outcome is the proportion achieving F-VASI75 at Week 52, the same endpoint the release reports. Placebo patients switch to povorcitinib for a second 52 weeks. source
Our view: The trial is randomized and triple-masked, and the registered primary endpoint matches the one the release reports. The issue is size of effect: placebo-adjusted gains of about 12 and 16 points leave most patients short of the goal, and any comparison with other vitiligo drugs will be cross-trial.

Latarcibart called 'potentially transformative' while the phase 3 is single-arm
The company said: "We also recently strengthened our Hematology franchise through the acquisition of latarcibart, a potentially transformative medicine for von Willebrand disease currently in Phase 3 development." source
The record says: The registry calls VIVID-6 "A Prospective, Multicenter, Open-label, Phase 3 Clinical Study" with masking listed as none and 60 planned participants. Each patient's own observation period serves as the comparison: "an initial observational period, during which participants are monitored without receiving study drug, followed by an interventional period". The release says topline data are due in early 2029. source
Our view: The 81% bleeding-rate cut cited in the release comes from a phase 1/2 study, and the phase 3 has no randomized control. That design can support approval in a rare bleeding disorder, but bleed counts in open-label studies are open to reporting bias, and the release expects an IPR&D expense of about $1,270 million in the third quarter of 2026 for the deal, well before 2029 data.
Legal and disclosure record · weight low
No securities litigation or enforcement disclosed
The record says: Legal Proceedings in the 10-Q points to Note 15, which lists the now-settled Incyte suit against CMS over the Medicaid line extension rule and "various patent disputes and litigation initiated by us related to potential generic or other competition for our products" (Jakafi and Opzelura ANDA suits in the District of New Jersey). No securities litigation or enforcement disclosed in the latest filing. An Aug. 31 8-K adds a CMS pricing agreement for Jakafi in Medicaid that the company does not expect to affect 2026 guidance. source
Our view: The legal docket is patent defense the company started, plus a pricing dispute resolved by an agreement with CMS. Outcomes of the remaining Jakafi generic suits matter most for the timing of the 2028 decline.
