Takeda bets its rebound on three launches as profit dips
Takeda has delivered three new medicines in one year, but they start from a small base while Vyvanse erodes and profit is guided down. Debt and the Amitiza verdict limit flexibility. The launches under new CEO Julie Kim will decide whether the dip is temporary.

- Technology
- Three new drugs. Orzeyful and Mimrylo won FDA approval in August 2026, and zasocitinib beat deucravacitinib head to head in psoriasis.
- Odds
- Good on regulators, unproven in market. Zasocitinib is under priority review, and filed drugs win approval 90.6% of the time in BIO's data; launches were 4% of Q1 revenue.
- Balance sheet
- Profitable but levered. Net debt was JPY 4,479.0 billion at June 30, 2026, or 2.7 times adjusted EBITDA.
- Main risk
- Earnings gap and litigation. Vyvanse generics pull revenue down while the Amitiza verdict led to a JPY 402.5 billion provision.

Takeda resolves DOJ Trintellix investigation for USD 13.67 million
Takeda received a civil investigative demand from the Department of Justice on February 19, 2020, seeking information as part of an investigation of possible off-label promotion and Anti-Kickback Statute violations in connection with Trintellix. In May 2026 Takeda finalized an agreement with the DOJ to resolve the matter for USD 13.67 million, according to its 20-F filed June 17, 2026. Takeda says it has not admitted and expressly denies wrongdoing, and that the settlement has no material impact on its consolidated statements of profit or loss.

Dexilant antitrust suits by pharmacies and purchaser classes against Takeda
In March 2025, four retail pharmacies sued Takeda and Twi Pharmaceuticals in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that their April 2015 settlement of Dexilant patent litigation violated antitrust law. Complaints on behalf of classes of direct and indirect purchasers and further pharmacies followed, asserting substantially the same allegations. Takeda lists the matter in the 20-F filed June 17, 2026.

Takeda lists pending Actos and Colcrys antitrust class actions
The 20-F filed June 17, 2026 describes two Actos antitrust class actions against Takeda in the Southern District of New York, filed in December 2013 by a putative class of patients and in April 2015 by a putative class of wholesalers. Plaintiffs allege Takeda improperly characterized certain Actos patents in the FDA Orange Book, delaying generic entry. It also describes a Colcrys antitrust class action filed in the Southern District of New York in November 2023 by plaintiffs seeking to represent a putative class of end payors, challenging patent settlements. Takeda reached an agreement in September 2023, fully executed in December 2023, to resolve an earlier Colcrys wholesaler class action for an amount it describes as immaterial.

Jury awards USD 884.9 million single damages against Takeda in Amitiza case
On May 18, 2026, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts awarded plaintiffs USD 884,943,990 in single damages in the Amitiza antitrust case. The case consolidates actions by a putative class of wholesalers, a putative class of third-party payors and individual retailers, who allege that Takeda's 2014 patent settlement with Par Pharmaceutical was anticompetitive. Damages awarded to the wholesaler class and retailers are to be automatically trebled upon entry of judgment; those for the third-party payor class remain subject to further proceedings. Takeda reported provisions of JPY 403,510 million related to the matter at March 31, 2026 and says it will pursue post-trial motions and an appeal. The verdict is not enforceable until the court enters judgment.
