CSL resets around plasma as Vifor shrinks
CSL is a steady plasma business recovering from a costly reset, with $7.1 billion of FY26 impairments and a modest FY27 outlook. The plasma side looks stable, but growth depends on cutting collection costs and replacing Vifor's lost sales under a new chief executive.

The plasma business still generates cash, but a $2.6 billion loss, a guidance cut, shrinking Vifor and a pipeline the chair says did not deliver weigh heavily.

- Technology
- Mature plasma platform. Immunoglobulin, albumin and clotting factors drive most sales, with newer drugs Hemgenix and Andembry growing from a small base.
- Odds
- Thin pipeline. The chair said CSL's R&D did not deliver, and the newest program, lixudebart, is in phase 2.
- Balance sheet
- Solid cash generation. Operating cash flow was $3.5 billion in FY26 and leverage 1.8 times, enough to fund the dividend and an A$1.1 billion buyback.
- Main risk
- Shrinking Vifor and policy pressure. Vifor revenue is guided down about 25% in FY27, and U.S. pricing agreements cap future launch prices.
- Watch next
- Leadership and margins. The Oct. 27 AGM, Deborah Waterhouse's start on Feb. 1, 2027 and progress on plasma collection costs.
