Fact-check-o-meter
Legend's commercial numbers hold up; the early-data language runs ahead of 20 patients and six
Legend's sales, cash and runway statements match its filings, and the 20-F discloses a patent complaint rather than any securities litigation. The softer spots are scientific framing: a "curative potential" statement rests on a 20-patient single-arm cohort, and a platform "validation" claim rests on six patients in an investigator-run phase 1 study. The profit goal is defined on an adjusted basis.
Science · weight medium
"Curative potential" quote rests on a 20-patient single-arm cohort
The company said: "These five-year data, showing that 50% of patients remained alive and progression-free after a single CARVYKTI infusion, reinforce the growing body of evidence supporting the unique curative potential of CARVYKTI" source
The record says: The release itself says the data come from "CARTITUDE-2 Cohort A (n=20)" and that "10 of 20 patients (50%) remained alive and progression-free". ClinicalTrials.gov lists CARTITUDE-2 as a phase 2, single-group, unmasked study with minimal residual disease negativity as the primary outcome. The release also notes that since the earlier analysis "one patient developed a new hematologic malignancy (acute myeloid leukemia) and two deaths occurred due to progressive disease and new cancer." source
Our view: The result is encouraging and the safety follow-up is disclosed. A single-arm cohort of 20 with no control cannot support a word like curative on its own, and the confidence around 50% is wide.

"Validating" an in vivo CAR-T platform on six patients
The company said: "we achieved a significant innovation milestone with the first-in-human clinical readout for LB2501, validating our in vivo CAR-T platform." source
The record says: The same release reports "a 100% ORR (6/6) and 83.3% CR (5/6) at the higher dose level (DL2)", with responses ongoing at data cutoff. ClinicalTrials.gov lists the China study (NCT07002112) as a phase 1, single-group, open-label trial with an estimated 30 participants, sponsored by The First Affiliated Hospital with Nanjing Medical University, and its primary outcomes are safety, pharmacokinetics and the recommended phase 2 dose. The Oct. 15 release says the FDA cleared the IND for a U.S. phase 1/2 study. source
Our view: Six responders at a higher dose is an early signal, not validation of a platform. Durability, safety in larger groups and the U.S. study will do the validating.
Press release vs filing · weight low
Runway and profit claims use an adjusted definition
The company said: "Cash and cash equivalents, and time deposits of approximately $965 million as of June 30, 2026, which Legend Biotech believes will provide financial runway beyond 2026, when Legend Biotech believes it will achieve a company-wide profit" source
The record says: A footnote in the release says "Company-wide profit defined as Adjusted Net Income". For the quarter, net income was $33.2 million and adjusted net income was $63.1 million. The release adds that "a formal agreement has not yet been executed" on the Chinese advance pricing agreement and that "the final outcome with a tax authority may result in a tax liability that is materially different from that reflected in the consolidated financial statements." The 20-F says management expects cash to fund operations "for at least the next 12 months". source
Our view: The runway statement matches the 20-F. Readers should know the profit target is adjusted, and the open tax matter could move reported results either way.
Press release vs filing · weight low
Headline sales are J&J-reported, and Legend's share is about half
The company said: "CARVYKTI (ciltacabtagene autoleucel; cilta-cel) net trade sales increased 50% versus second quarter of 2025 to approximately $657 million" source
The record says: The release reports Legend's collaboration revenue at $326.1 million for the quarter. For the preliminary third-quarter figure of about $710 million, the 6-K says it is "based on information provided to Legend Biotech by Janssen, and Legend Biotech has not independently verified the accuracy of such sales figure" and has not been audited or reviewed. source
Our view: This is standard collaboration reporting and the caveat is clear in the filing. The headline number is the partner's sales, so Legend's own revenue is the figure to track.
Legal and disclosure record · weight medium
Patent complaint in the Unified Patent Court; no securities litigation disclosed
The record says: Under Legal and Administrative Proceedings, the 20-F says: "On January 5, 2026, plaintiff 2seventy bio, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, filed a patent infringement complaint in the Unified Patent Court against us and our collaborator including Janssen." The complaint concerns European Patent No. 3 689 383 and "seeks unspecified monetary damages"; the company says it intends to defend vigorously. No securities litigation or enforcement is disclosed in that section. source
Our view: The complaint targets European sales of the only marketed product. The 20-F gives no timetable or damages estimate, so any ruling or settlement would be new information.
