argenx needs a second drug to match its first
argenx has built a profitable business on one mechanism and keeps adding labels, but it depends on a single drug and 2026 showed where that drug stops working. December's empasiprubart readout is the clearest test of whether the company can grow beyond Vyvgart.

- Technology
- Proven FcRn blocker. Vyvgart is approved in generalized myasthenia gravis of all serotypes and CIDP, with $1.72 billion in Q3 sales.
- Odds
- Strong but not perfect. Three trial wins in 2026 sit beside a futility stop in Sjögren's and a dermatomyositis miss.
- Balance sheet
- Profitable with $3.7 billion. Q3 net income was $506 million after the $2.2 billion Forte deal reduced cash.
- Main risk
- One-drug dependence. Every dollar of revenue comes from efgartigimod, and growth slowed from 63% to 54% this year.
- Watch next
- EMPASSION in December. It is the first phase 3 readout for empasiprubart, argenx's second molecule.

Fact-check-o-meter
argenx's sales figures are consistent within its own release, but its trial messaging rounds off the misses
Vyvgart sales and profit in the third-quarter release match the interim statements in the same release. The gaps are in how trial news is framed: the quarterly update skips the Sjögren's futility stop, calls the myositis effect consistent across a subtype that missed significance, and names a celiac primary endpoint that differs from the one on ClinicalTrials.gov.
Press release vs filing · weight medium
Quarterly update leaves out the Sjögren's trial stop
The company said: "The story of argenx is one of continued innovation, growth and impact" source
The record says: Two weeks earlier, a 6-K exhibit announced that argenx "will discontinue the Phase 3 UNITY study of efgartigimod subcutaneous (SC) (efgartigimod alfa and hyaluronidase-qvfc) in adults with moderate-to-severe Sjögren's disease" because the IDMC "concluded that the UNITY study is unable to meet its primary endpoint." The October 22 third-quarter release, which lists Vyvgart's programs indication by indication, does not mention Sjögren's or UNITY. source
Our view: The stop was disclosed promptly in its own filing, so this is an omission from the summary, not a hidden event. Still, a reader of the quarterly update alone would not learn that one of Vyvgart's expansion studies ended in futility this month.
Science · weight medium
Myositis effect called consistent across a subtype that missed
The company said: "Reported positive Phase 3 ALKIVIA results with consistent and clinically meaningful treatment effects observed across immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) and dermatomyositis (DM)" source
The record says: The August 17 topline 6-K shows the primary endpoint was met in the combined population (p=0.0011) and in IMNM (p=0.0048), but "In DM, a similar clinically meaningful improvement of 14.5 points (p=0.1093) was observed (51.51 vs 36.96), though statistical significance was not reached in this smaller cohort." The third-quarter release says only that argenx plans "to conduct an additional registrational study in DM." source
Our view: The point estimates are similar, so "consistent" is defensible as a description of effect size. But the plan for a new DM trial follows a subtype result that did not reach significance (p=0.1093), and the quarterly update does not say why the extra study is needed. The near-term filing is IMNM only.
Science · weight medium
Celiac release and trial registry name different primary endpoints
The company said: "The primary endpoint was change from baseline in the ratio of villus height-to-crypt depth (Vh:Cd) at day 78 versus placebo" source
The record says: The ClinicalTrials.gov record for the same study (NCT06982963), last updated November 18, 2025, lists one primary outcome: "Change from baseline in the VCIEL" at 78 days, with estimated enrollment of 100 and status still recruiting. The release treats VCIEL as a supporting measure that was "consistent with the primary endpoint" and reports 126 patients enrolled. The release gives p-values but no effect sizes for any measure. source
Our view: This may be a stale registry entry rather than a switched endpoint; we cannot tell from public records. Either way, the readout is a histology measure in a controlled gluten challenge, not a real-world efficacy endpoint, and the numbers behind "clinically relevant" have not been shown. Phase 3 design will say more.
Legal and disclosure record · weight low
No material litigation disclosed
The record says: The 2025 Form 20-F states: "During the previous 12 months, there have not been any legal, governmental or arbitration proceedings (including any such proceedings which are pending or threatened of which we are aware) which may have, or have had in the recent past, significant effects on argenx and/or the Group's financial position or profitability." Note 26 adds that the company "is currently not facing any outstanding claims or litigation that may have a significant adverse impact." No securities litigation or enforcement disclosed in the latest annual filing. source
Our view: The record is clean. Patent and biosimilar challenges are listed only as general risk factors, not as pending cases.
