Dermata Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DRMA) reported first-quarter 2026 results in a corporate update filed with a Form 8-K dated May 13, 2026. The company said its at-the-market (ATM) financing facility produced $2.0 million in net proceeds during the quarter. Cash and cash equivalents were $6.9 million at March 31, 2026, compared with $7.5 million at December 31, 2025.

The press release names no sales agent or underwriter for the ATM facility. The 10-K business section in this story's sources names no financial advisor or legal counsel either, so the filing material here does not identify who arranged the program. The release does not describe the program's size or terms beyond the net proceeds received.

Cash and spending

The cash balance fell by $0.6 million in the quarter. The company said about $2.0 million of ATM proceeds, reduced by approximately $0.1 million of equity financing-related expenses, was offset by $2.5 million of cash used in operations. The company expects its current cash resources to be sufficient to fund operations into the first quarter of 2027.

Research and development expenses were $0.4 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, compared with $1.3 million a year earlier. The company attributed the $0.9 million decrease to $0.7 million of lower clinical expenses, $0.1 million of lower chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) and non-clinical expenses, and $0.1 million of lower personnel expenses.

Selling, general and administrative expenses were $1.5 million, compared with approximately $1.1 million a year earlier. The increase came mainly from $0.2 million of marketing expenses, $0.2 million of higher audit fees and $0.1 million of higher legal fees.

The Tome brand and launch plan

The release says Dermata announced its Tome skincare brand in March 2026. The company describes Tome as a skincare line that brings professional skincare into the home, starting with a once-weekly Foundational Treatment for skin renewal. The company also hired Kyra Peckaitis as Vice President of Marketing in March 2026 to lead the brand. She previously worked at Coterie, helping to build its direct-to-consumer baby care brand.

The company said it is finalizing packaging for the Foundational Treatment, and that it planned to launch it in the middle of 2026. It is also working on a second direct-to-consumer product, expected to launch after the Foundational Treatment. Chief Executive Officer Gerry Proehl said: "We believe this product launch will position Dermata to deliver long-term value for both consumers and shareholders."

Background from the 10-K

The 10-K describes the strategic background. In September 2025, management, with support from the board, determined that a direct-to-consumer and business-to-business skincare business was a better path to commercialization than a prescription acne launch. XYNGARI had produced statistically significant Phase 3 STAR-1 results in March 2025 across all three co-primary endpoints at weeks 4, 8, and 12 compared with placebo.

The 10-K lists the expected benefits of the change as an accelerated path to commercialization, a reduced regulatory burden and lower development expenses. It reported research and development expense of $2.9 million for 2025, compared with $8.2 million for 2024, and a net loss of $7.6 million against $12.3 million. Cash used in operations was $7.8 million in 2025 and $11.2 million in 2024.

The risks ahead

The company still has no product on sale, and it is funding itself partly by selling shares through its ATM program. Cash used in operations was $2.5 million in the quarter, and cash and equivalents were $6.9 million at March 31, 2026. The company says its current cash resources should fund operations into the first quarter of 2027. It plans to launch the Foundational Treatment in the middle of 2026 and a second consumer product after it. The release warns that the success and timing of the launch are subject to known and unknown risks.
