Roivant has an approved drug and cash, but the trials that matter are still ahead

The Lisraya approval and the Moderna payment improve the balance sheet. The 2026 and 2027 readouts across Priovant, Immunovant and Pulmovant will decide the rest.

The technology

Roivant is a holding company that runs drug programs through separate subsidiaries. The main ones are Priovant (brepocitinib), Immunovant (IMVT-1402 and batoclimab), Pulmovant (mosliciguat) and Genevant, which licenses lipid nanoparticle delivery technology from Arbutus.

Brepocitinib is the proof of concept. It is an oral TYK2 and JAK1 inhibitor that the FDA approved as Lisraya for dermatomyositis on Aug. 27. Immunovant's IMVT-1402 is an FcRn blocker, and it is being tested in six autoimmune diseases, on schedule according to the company. Genevant's value so far comes from its patent cases.

The odds

Roivant's mix of risks is unusual: one approved drug, one set of late-stage trials and one lawsuit portfolio. The BIO, Informa and QLS study of 2011 to 2020 gives the base rates: 57.8% of phase 3 programs reach an NDA or BLA filing, 90.6% of filings are approved, and 52.4% of programs entering phase 3 are eventually approved. Phase 2 to phase 3 is the hardest step at 28.9%. For rare disease, the phase 3 to filing rate is 60.4% and filing to approval is 93.6%.

Brepocitinib has cleared the last step in dermatomyositis, with the 30 mg dose beating placebo on the Total Improvement Score by 15.3 points. Its non-infectious uveitis phase 3 reads out in the second half of 2026. Immunovant's record is mixed: batoclimab missed in thyroid eye disease in April, and IMVT-1402's registrational Graves' disease and myasthenia gravis data are not due until 2027. Pulmovant's mosliciguat is in phase 2, the stage where the base rates are least kind.

The money

Roivant reported $3,842.1 million in cash and marketable securities at June 30, 2026, before the Moderna payment. Genevant's share of that payment was $771.6 million and arrived July 8. Revenue was just $1.44 million for the quarter against a $290.6 million net loss, so the cash is what pays for the pipeline. The company bought back 7.3 million shares for about $208.7 million in the quarter and had about $681.7 million left on its authorization.

Immunovant holds its own funds: $797.8 million at June 30, which it said covers the period to a potential Graves' disease launch. A further $1.3 billion from Moderna depends on an appeals court ruling and is not booked.

The risks

Losses continue. Roivant's 10-Q says it expects to incur additional losses, and operating expenses of $367.8 million in a quarter leave little room if trials fail. Lisraya carries a boxed warning, and in VALOR serious infections occurred in 10% of 30 mg patients against 1% on placebo, per the FDA summary. Its 15 mg dose did not reach significance. The Moderna contingent payment rests on one legal question. The Pfizer and BioNTech cases are early and now span 21 jurisdictions, with no response on record.

Our read

Roivant has moved from a story about trials to a story about execution. The approval gives it a real product, and the Moderna cash reduces the pressure to raise money. Neither fixes the fact that most of its value still depends on data not yet seen: the uveitis phase 3, the two Immunovant proof-of-concept readouts due in the second half of 2026 and the 2027 Graves' and myasthenia gravis trials.

Because the group holds many separate bets, one failure rarely sinks it, as the batoclimab miss showed. The same structure makes it hard to read a single quarter. The next test is whether Lisraya sales appear in the quarter after launch, and whether the 2026 readouts keep the calendar on track.
