Immunovant is down to one drug and a long wait for proof
Batoclimab is gone and the lupus study missed. IMVT-1402 now carries five programs, with the first registrational answers in 2027.
The technology
FcRn is a receptor that rescues IgG antibodies from being broken down, so blocking it drains IgG from the blood, including the autoantibodies behind many autoimmune diseases. IMVT-1402 is a fully human antibody that does this as a weekly self-injection. Immunovant says weekly 600 mg dosing should reach about 80% IgG reduction, deeper than competing FcRn programs, with no or minimal drops in albumin and rises in LDL cholesterol, side effects seen with its older antibody, batoclimab.
The bet is that depth matters. Immunovant has argued for years that more IgG lowering means better results. The evidence is mixed. In difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis, open-label data showed 72.7% ACR20 at week 16 in patients who had failed at least two advanced drugs. In cutaneous lupus, patients with deeper IgG reductions did better, but the trial still missed its primary endpoint.
The odds
The mechanism is proven in some diseases. FcRn blockers such as argenx's Vyvgart are approved in generalized myasthenia gravis, which makes Immunovant's myasthenia trial a lower-risk program, although a crowded one. Graves' disease is newer ground. It is driven by IgG autoantibodies that stimulate the thyroid, and the 10-K lists mostly early-stage competitors, with argenx planning a registrational trial in 2026.
Rheumatoid arthritis is the hardest call. Open-label rates can shrink once a placebo arm appears, and Period 2 is a randomized withdrawal design. Industry data put the chance that a phase 2 program moves to phase 3 at 28.9%, and the chance a phase 3 drug reaches a filing at 57.8%, per BIO, Informa and QLS for 2011 to 2020. Immunovant's own record this year, a phase 3 miss in thyroid eye disease and a phase 2 miss in lupus, argues for caution.
The money
Cash was $797.8 million at June 30, down from about $902.1 million three months earlier. The quarterly net loss was $153.2 million and R&D was $142.6 million. Immunovant says the cash funds operations to a potential Graves' launch under the current plan. It has never generated product revenue and had an accumulated deficit of $1.745 billion at March 31.
Roivant controls a majority of the voting power, and Immunovant is a "controlled company" under Nasdaq rules. That gives it access to a deep-pocketed parent, but outside holders have less say over governance.
The risks
Concentration is the first risk: every program now uses the same molecule. The second is the HanAll license. Immunovant is in talks about returning batoclimab rights and warns that a disagreement could lead to arbitration or litigation. It still could owe up to $420.0 million in milestones. The third is competition from approved FcRn and complement drugs in myasthenia gravis, where the 10-K lists C5 inhibitors and an anti-CD19 antibody alongside FcRn blockers, and from argenx in Graves' disease and CIDP. The fourth is timing: Graves' and myasthenia gravis data are not due until 2027, so the stock has few scheduled catalysts besides the arthritis update, and cash use of more than $100 million a quarter continues the whole time.
Our read
Immunovant has a cleaner story than a year ago: one drug, five diseases, a dated calendar and enough money to get there. It has also lost two arguments in 2026, and the remaining case rests on open-label arthritis data and the hope that Graves' disease rewards deep IgG lowering. Until the randomized arthritis results and the 2027 readouts arrive, the company is asking investors to wait, and the cash supports that wait for about two years. The next test is whether the arthritis randomization confirms the open-label response, and whether the company can keep its remaining timelines while a licensor dispute stays unresolved.
