MetaVia Inc. (Nasdaq: MTVA) said on May 11, 2026 that a late-breaking abstract on DA-1726 had been accepted for a poster presentation at the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Congress 2026. The congress runs May 27 to 30, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain. The poster is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 8:30 am CET in the Late Breaking Posters session.
The poster
The poster is titled Safety, Tolerability, Pharmacokinetics, and Pharmacodynamics of DA-1726, an Oxyntomodulin Analogue, in a Higher-Dose Phase 1 Cohort with Exploratory Noninvasive Liver Assessment. Chris Fang, Chief Medical Officer, is the presenting author. The abstract number is LB26-5204, and the final abstract ID is LBP-010. The company says a copy of the poster will be posted in the Posters section of its website after the presentation.
The candidate
DA-1726 is a novel oxyntomodulin analogue that works as a dual agonist of GLP-1 receptors and glucagon receptors. The company is developing it for the treatment of obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). It is designed to be given once weekly under the skin. The release says that in preclinical mouse models, DA-1726 produced improved weight loss compared with semaglutide (Wegovy), a leading GLP-1 receptor agonist. It also says that in preclinical mouse models, DA-1726 produced similar weight reduction to tirzepatide (Zepbound) and survodutide while consuming more food, and that it preserved lean body mass.
The release also says that in the Phase 1 multiple ascending dose trial in obesity, the 32 mg dose showed best-in-class potential for weight loss, glucose control and waist circumference reduction. These are the company's own characterizations.
Where the study stands
Chief Executive Officer Hyung Heon Kim said the company continues to advance DA-1726 in a 16-week Phase 1 Part 3 titration study designed to optimize higher dose levels and tolerability. The company expects data from that study in the fourth quarter of this year. Kim said the late-breaking acceptance "underscores the strength of this asset." Acceptance of a poster is not a result, and the release gives no weight, safety or liver figures.
The company's annual report, filed March 26, 2026, describes the earlier trial history. The company started its Phase 1 trial in 2024 and announced positive topline data from the single ascending dose part in September 2024. It announced positive topline data from the up to 32 mg multiple ascending dose cohort in April 2025, began enrolling a higher-dose cohort in June 2025 and dosed the first patient in the 48 mg cohort in July 2025.
The company
MetaVia describes itself as a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on transforming cardiometabolic diseases. Its second program, vanoglipel (DA-1241), is a GPR119 agonist in development for MASH and type 2 diabetes. The annual report also describes four legacy programs that the company is not planning to advance. The company has considered or continues to consider out-licensing or divesting them.
Financial position
The annual report shows research and development expense of $6.8 million for 2025, compared with $21.6 million for 2024. Net loss was $13.0 million for 2025 and $27.6 million for 2024. Cash from operations was negative $15.7 million for 2025 and negative $24.7 million for 2024. Cash and cash equivalents at the end of 2024 were $16.0 million.
What to weigh
The poster title calls the liver assessment exploratory, and the release gives no data, so nothing can be judged until the poster appears. The comparisons with semaglutide, tirzepatide and survodutide come from mouse models, and "best-in-class potential" is the company's phrase. The annual report says the Part 3 titration studies aim to remove moderate adverse effects at the 48 mg dose, and the readout is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Cash from operations was negative $15.7 million for 2025 against year-end 2024 cash of $16.0 million, and the release says nothing about current cash. The poster is set for May 27, 2026, at the EASL Congress.
