Dogwood Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWTX) reported second quarter 2026 financial results on August 13, 2026, in a release from Alpharetta, Georgia. The company reported a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $11.5 million, or $0.34 basic and diluted net loss per share, for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. That compares with $3.8 million, or $1.99 per share, for the second quarter of 2025. The loss includes a net non-cash impairment charge of $6.7 million, discussed below.
Pipeline update
Dogwood said its lead candidate, Halneuron, remains on track for top-line results from its Phase 2b trial in chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CINP) this fall. The trial had enrolled 217 patients when the release was issued. The company anticipates enrolling over 220 patients, which it says would give 80+% statistical power. Dogwood describes Halneuron as a non-opioid Na V 1.7 analgesic that has fast track designation from the FDA for CINP.
The FDA granted an IND for SP16. The study, for chemotherapy-induced pain and peripheral neuropathy, is fully funded by the National Cancer Institute, will be conducted at the University of Virginia and is due to begin enrolling in the second half of 2026. Dogwood also started a 12-week open-label extension for patients who finish the ongoing 4-week CINP study.
Financial results
Research and development expenses were $3.2 million for the second quarter of 2026, compared with $2.6 million a year earlier. General and administrative expenses were $1.6 million, compared with $1.3 million. Dogwood attributed the $0.3 million increase mainly to salaries and related personnel costs of $0.3 million and franchise fees of $0.1 million, partly offset by a $0.1 million decrease in public company costs.
The company said its stock price declined in the first and second quarters of 2026, leaving market capitalization below stockholders' equity. Management treated that as an impairment indicator, assessed goodwill and in-process research and development (IPR&D) for impairment, and recognized a net non-cash impairment charge of $6.7 million. The IPR&D impairment comprised a $9.2 million non-cash expense in the second quarter, partly offset by a $2.5 million reduction in deferred tax liability expense. Dogwood said the impairment has no bearing on its cash runway.
Dogwood reported cash on hand of $9.6 million, which it said provides operational runway through the Phase 2b readout in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Partnership, governance and background
Dogwood announced a worldwide development and commercialization partnership for its legacy antiviral assets, with potential value of up to $100 million to Dogwood and its contingent value rights (CVR) holders. The release says any upfront or milestone payment that counts under the terms of the CVRs issued on October 17, 2024 will go to the rights agent for payment to CVR holders.
Iain Dukes, D.Phil., a Venture Partner at OrbiMed, was appointed chair of the company's Scientific Advisory Board. The release also notes that Dogwood's largest shareholder is a member of CK Life Sciences Int'l. (Holdings) Inc., which is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under stock code 0775.
Dogwood describes itself as a pre-revenue, development-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on new medicines to treat pain and neuropathy. Its annual report filed March 18, 2026 reported a 2025 net loss of $34.3 million, compared with $12.3 million in 2024. Research and development expense was $21.9 million in 2025, up from $3.5 million in 2024, and cash from operations was negative $15.6 million in 2025, against negative $8.8 million in 2024. In its earlier Phase 2 cancer related pain study, 51% of patients receiving Halneuron experienced at least a 30% reduction in pain, compared with 35% of placebo patients. The company's materials give no p-value for that difference. In the Halneuron group 100% of patients had at least one treatment-emergent adverse event, and 83.1% of that group completed the study against 94.3% on placebo. The release states cash runway only to the Phase 2b readout and names no funding beyond it.
