Dermata Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DRMA) said it expects its first commercial product, Tome Foundational Treatment, to be available for sale starting August 25, 2026. The company disclosed the date in a press release described in a Form 8-K dated August 5, 2026, filed under Item 8.01 (Other Events). The filing was signed by Gerald T. Proehl, Chief Executive Officer.
Customers on the waitlist will get early access to preorder. The Foundational Treatment set includes four once-weekly treatments and will be sold for $178, or about $45 per treatment. The company says the set will be available exclusively through its Tome website.
The strategy behind the launch
The launch date follows a strategy the company adopted in September 2025. The 10-K describes that decision in detail. After its Phase 3 STAR-1 trial of XYNGARI produced statistically significant results in March 2025, management reviewed the prescription acne path and decided to pursue direct-to-consumer and business-to-business skincare products instead. The sources here give no p-values or effect sizes for that trial, and the prescription program was set aside rather than taken to the FDA.
The company said that choice could accelerate its path to commercialization, reduce its regulatory burden and decrease development expenses, while enabling it to address broad consumer segments in the skincare market. If the launch proceeds on the stated date, it would be the company's first commercial product.
The product
The 10-K describes a once-weekly foundational treatment for skin renewal built around the Bioneedle, which the company describes as 100% Spongilla lacustris powder. The kit combines the Bioneedle with a fluidizing agent for easy application. The Spongilla is processed into a fine, purified powder and packaged with no additives.
The company also plans an OTC topical acne system for consumers with many common forms of acne. The 10-K says the first cosmetic product was planned for the middle of 2026, with the first OTC acne product to follow shortly thereafter.
The market case
The 10-K sets out why the company believes consumers will buy OTC products first. It says the causes, symptoms and treatments of common skin issues, like acne, have over 50 million patients in the U.S., and that over 70% of patients with acne first choose to try multiple OTC products before seeing a dermatologist.
The 10-K adds that consumers with acne that does not get satisfactory results typically wait about one year before scheduling a visit with a dermatologist. It also says many currently available OTC acne products are mildly effective and have tolerability issues that result in poor patient compliance. The company says it believes it can capture a large segment of acne patients before they seek Rx products through a physician.
Financial position
The 10-K reported research and development expense of $2.9 million for 2025, compared with $8.2 million for 2024. Net loss was $7.6 million in 2025 and $12.3 million in 2024. Cash used in operations was $7.8 million in 2025 and $11.2 million in 2024. Year-end cash and cash equivalents were $3.2 million at December 31, 2024.
This story uses only figures from filings made on or before August 5, 2026. The company's 10-K is the annual source for the figures above, and the filing does not give a later cash balance.
The risks ahead
The company has no commercial sales yet, and the launch is its first test with consumers. It lost $7.6 million in 2025 and used $7.8 million of cash in operations, and the filings used here give no later cash balance. The company says it expects the Foundational Treatment to be available from August 25, 2026, and that it plans more products over time. The 8-K warns that the timing and success of launches and market acceptance are uncertain, and that actual results could differ materially and adversely.
