Calidi Biotherapeutics, Inc. (NYSE American: CLDI) reported its first quarter 2026 operating and financial results on May 14, 2026, in a release issued from San Diego. The company reported a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $4.4 million, or $0.43 per share, for the three months ended March 31, 2026. That compares with a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $5.0 million, or $2.21 per share, for the same period in 2025.

Quarterly results

Research and development expenses were $2.6 million for the first quarter of 2026, compared with $2.4 million for the same period in 2025. General and administrative expenses were $1.6 million, down from $2.6 million a year earlier. The company said it recorded a $1.0 million reduction in general and administrative expenses from the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, which it attributed primarily to reduced headcount, consulting and rent expenses.

Calidi reported approximately $6.6 million in cash and $0.2 million in restricted cash as of March 31, 2026, compared with $5.6 million in cash and $0.2 million in restricted cash as of December 31, 2025. The release does not say how long that cash will fund operations.

Scientific presentations

On April 19, 2026, Calidi presented data at the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) meeting on RedTail viruses that can express a functional T-cell engager and IL-15 SA at high concentrations. The company said this allows simultaneous T-cell activation and high in situ expression of a T-cell engager. It also presented data on its first in situ T-cell engager, CLD-501, which targets TROP2. On April 21, 2026, Calidi presented new data on CLD-401, the first lead from its RedTail platform, at the AACR annual meeting in San Diego, California. The release said that work detailed immune changes in the tumor microenvironment, including the recruitment and activation of T, NK, NK-T and gamma delta (γδ) T-cells.

On April 28, 2026, Calidi presented at the International Oncolytic Virus Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland. The data showed that the RedTail extracellular enveloped and CD55-overexpressing virus can avoid immune clearance, replicate only in target cells and deliver high concentrations of genetic medicine to sites of disease. On May 14, 2026, Calidi presented as a featured speaker at the American Society for Gene and Cell Therapy meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. The talk highlighted that CLD-401 can induce high levels of IL15-SA expression in the tumor microenvironment while keeping circulating levels low.

The collaboration and IND plans

In April 2026, Calidi entered a collaboration with TransferAI to drive efficiencies in its IND submission for CLD-401. The work uses TransferAI's proprietary agentic artificial intelligence platform, Sofie, which includes pre-built and customizable orchestrations for biopharma. The release says Sofie will work alongside Calidi's teams on regulatory workflows.

The company describes RedTail as an engineered enveloped oncolytic virus designed for systemic delivery and targeting of metastatic sites. CLD-401 is in IND-enabling studies and targets non-small cell lung cancer, head and neck cancer and other tumor types with high unmet medical need.

Chief executive Eric Poma, PhD, said: "We are excited about the continued progress at Calidi."

Annual figures and next steps

Calidi's annual report for 2025, filed March 27, 2026, gives the longer trend. Research and development expense was $9.7 million for 2025, compared with $8.9 million for 2024. The net loss for 2025 was $19.9 million, against $22.1 million for 2024. Cash from operations was negative $21.3 million in 2025, compared with negative $19.7 million in 2024. The company reported year-end cash and cash equivalents of $9.6 million for 2024 in its 10-K filed March 31, 2025.

The conference presentations above concern a program still in IND-enabling studies, so none of it is human data, and the release gives no study sizes or statistics for them. The cash on hand of $6.6 million at March 31, 2026 compares with $21.3 million used in operations in 2025, and the release gives no runway. The next milestone the company names is the CLD-401 IND filing, which it expects by the end of 2026.
