Bionano Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: BNGO) reported second quarter 2026 results on August 10, 2026. Total revenue was $8.2 million, an increase of 21% from $6.7 million in the second quarter of 2025. The company also gave revenue guidance for the third quarter and the full year 2026.

Quarter results

Consumables revenue was $4.3 million, an increase of 31%. Bionano sold 9,219 nanochannel array flow cells in the quarter, a 27% increase over the 7,233 flow cells sold in the second quarter of 2025. Gross margin was 53%, compared with 52% a year earlier. Operating expenses rose 2% to $11.5 million, more than the quarter's $8.2 million of revenue, while adjusted operating expense fell 2% to $8.7 million. The release as filed gives no net loss, no cash balance and no cash used in operations for the quarter. The company says adjusted operating expense excludes stock-based compensation, amortization of intangibles, transaction-related expenses and executive transition costs, so it is a smaller number than the GAAP figure and not a standard measure. The chairman is also serving as interim chief executive, and the release does not explain the executive transition.

Al Luderer, Ph.D., chairman and interim chief executive officer, said: "Our second quarter results reflect a strong vote of confidence from our routine use customer community and the accelerating global adoption of optical genome mapping (OGM)." He added that growth in consumable sales has been driven mainly by increased clinical adoption, and that this adoption, along with increased utilization at existing and new clinical sites, will remain the foundation of the company's growth.

Business highlights

The release lists several scientific and commercial updates. A publication from Johns Hopkins and MD Anderson Cancer Center in the American Journal of Hematology showed that OGM can significantly outperform traditional analytical methods for detecting structural variations and chromosomal abnormalities in multiple myeloma. The company also announced the largest OGM study of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia to date, published in Modern Pathology. These are published studies the company cites, not proof that clinicians will pay for the test, and the release says its products are for research use only. That study found genomic abnormalities in 97.8% of cases, compared with 55% detected by conventional karyotyping.

Bionano reported 13 OGM studies in reproductive health and prenatal genetic disorders, analyzing 730 subjects, published to date. Studies featuring OGM at the 2026 European Society of Human Genetics conference rose 67% year over year.

The company completed the full retirement of all its outstanding Senior Secured Convertible Debentures during the quarter. The release says this eliminates the outstanding secured debt obligations and releases all liens on the company's assets. It does not say how much was repaid, in cash or in shares, or what it cost. The company also appointed Alex Hastie, Ph.D., as Chief Scientific Officer, which Luderer described as welcoming back one of the original architects of the company's technology.

Company and financial position

Bionano describes itself as a provider of genome analysis solutions. It also offers genome analysis software, extraction products, and OGM-based diagnostic testing services through Lineagen, Inc. d/b/a Bionano Laboratories. The release states that Bionano's products are for research use only and not for use in diagnostic procedures.

The company's annual financial data for 2025 shows research and development expense of $11.4 million, down from $24.8 million in 2024. It reported a net loss of $26.4 million for 2025, compared with $112.0 million for 2024, and cash used in operations of $16.3 million, compared with $68.9 million. The data gives year-end 2025 cash and cash equivalents of $3.0 million and short-term investments of $16.3 million. The loss narrowed sharply in 2025, but the company still lost money and used cash, and the sources give no liquidity figure after the debenture payoff.

What comes next

Bionano expects third quarter 2026 revenue in the range of $8.2 to $8.6 million, a range whose low end equals the second quarter's $8.2 million. For the full year 2026 it expects revenue of $31 to $33 million.
