Ironwood Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company developing and commercializing therapies for gastrointestinal and rare diseases. Its commercial product, LINZESS (linaclotide), is the first product approved by the U.S. FDA in the class of guanylate cyclase type C agonists, and it is indicated in the U.S. for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, chronic idiopathic constipation and pediatric functional constipation. Linaclotide is partnered with AbbVie for the U.S. and most markets worldwide, with AstraZeneca in China and with Astellas in Japan. Through its acquisition of VectivBio Holding AG in June 2023, Ironwood is advancing apraglutide, a long-acting GLP-2 analog for short bowel syndrome patients who are dependent on parenteral support. The pivotal Phase III STARS trial reported positive topline results in February 2024, but after discussions with the FDA, a confirmatory Phase III trial, STARS-2, is needed before a new drug application can be submitted. The company expects site initiations for STARS-2 to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Ironwood recognized $289.3 million in collaborative arrangements revenue from U.S. LINZESS sales in the year ended December 31, 2025, and generated $127.0 million in cash from operations, ending the year with $215.5 million in cash and cash equivalents.
