Tickers [UNCY](https://aibio.space/companies/unicycive-therapeutics/)

Nasdaq confirmed on July 7, 2025 that Unicycive's shares had averaged at least $1.00 after a 1:10 reverse stock split took effect on June 20, 2025. The release does not say what the FDA has done on the company's lead candidate, which had a PDUFA date of June 28, 2025.

## The compliance notice

Unicycive Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: [UNCY](https://aibio.space/companies/unicycive-therapeutics/)) said in a July 8, 2025 release, furnished on Form 8-K, that it had regained compliance with the Nasdaq minimum bid price requirement under Listing Rule 5550(a)(2). On July 7, 2025, the company received confirmation from Nasdaq's Listing Qualifications Department that, as of July 3, 2025, its common stock had maintained an average closing price of at least $1.00 immediately after the 1:10 reverse stock split. Nasdaq now considers the matter closed.

The reverse split became effective on June 20, 2025, and the company had announced it on June 17, 2025. A reverse split combines existing shares into a smaller number of shares, which raises the price of each one. The release does not give the share count after the split, the share price before it, or the date on which Nasdaq first flagged the bid price problem.

## The company

Unicycive was founded in 2016 and describes itself as a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on kidney disease. Its business model is to license technologies and drugs and then develop, seek approval for and commercialize them. The annual report says the management team's network and track record give it an advantage in finding assets to in-license.

Its lead candidate, oxylanthanum carbonate, is an investigational phosphate binder for hyperphosphatemia in chronic kidney disease patients on dialysis. The compound was developed by Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, which ran a Phase 1 trial in 2012, before Unicycive's license was granted in 2018. The company says it has submitted a New Drug Application under the 505(b)(2) pathway, with a PDUFA date of June 28, 2025. The release describes the candidate as currently under review by the FDA. It does not say whether the agency acted by the PDUFA date, which had passed when the release was issued.

The second candidate, UNI-494, is in development for acute kidney injury. Sphaera Pharma was its original developer. The annual report says Unicycive completed a Phase 1 study in healthy volunteers in 2024. The FDA has granted UNI-494 orphan drug designation for preventing delayed graft function in kidney transplant patients. The annual report also says no FDA-approved medicines currently treat delayed graft function or acute kidney injury.

## The market it is targeting

The annual report cites the United States Renal Data System for an estimate of 30 million adults with chronic kidney disease, of whom about 550,000 have end-stage renal disease and need dialysis. It says hyperphosphatemia remains uncontrolled for an estimated 75% of people in the U.S. on dialysis. The annual report says the six currently available phosphate binders have insufficient potency, large pill burdens and unpalatable formulations.

For acute kidney injury, the annual report says the condition affects more than 2 million U.S. patients a year, costs the healthcare system more than $9 billion a year and is linked to more than 300,000 deaths a year in the U.S.

## What the filings do not show

The annual report describes both candidates as investigational, and neither has FDA approval. The company says its nanoparticle technology gives oxylanthanum carbonate higher potency, fewer and smaller pills and a tablet that is swallowed whole rather than chewed, and that it believes the candidate will compete favorably with existing binders. Those are the company's beliefs, and the annual report's business section reports no efficacy results for the candidate. The pipeline also rests on two in-licensed assets, from Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and Sphaera Pharma.

The release reports only the compliance outcome. It does not say whether the FDA has acted on the application, what the company's cash balance is, or whether it plans to raise money.
