Retractable Technologies, Inc. (NYSE American: [RVP](https://aibio.space/companies/retractable-technologies/)) reported total net sales of $7.2 million for the second quarter of 2026, compared with $10.4 million for the same period last year. The loss from operations was $5.1 million, the same as in the second quarter of 2025. Net income for the three months ended June 30, 2026 was $2.8 million, but it included a $6.4 million gain on the sale of equity securities. The operations themselves lost money. The company released the results in a [Form 8-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/946563/000110465926097353/tm2623222d1_ex99.htm) filed on August 14, 2026.

Retractable is based in Little Elm, Texas. It makes VanishPoint and Patient Safe safety medical products and the EasyPoint needle, a retractable needle for luer lock syringes, luer slip syringes and prefilled syringes.

## The second quarter in detail

Domestic sales accounted for 81.6% of total revenues in the second quarter, compared with 81.3% a year earlier. Domestic revenues decreased 30.8%, and domestic unit sales decreased 35.1%. The company said the decrease in sales and units was primarily due to the timing of EasyPoint needle orders from certain customers, which can fluctuate between periods based on customer purchasing patterns.

International revenues decreased 32.2% from the second quarter of 2025. The release says that decrease was primarily driven by lower EasyPoint needle sales. The release says the timing of future international orders remains uncertain. Overall unit sales decreased 36.4%.

Cost of manufactured product decreased 34.7% compared with the same period last year, primarily due to lower sales. Royalty expense decreased 20.8% because gross sales fell. The release reports an unrealized loss on debt securities of $179 thousand for the quarter, due to lower market values of those securities.

The company spent approximately $46 thousand on tariff expenses in the second quarter of 2026. It attributes the reduction in tariff costs compared with prior periods to ongoing mitigation efforts, including strategic sourcing decisions and increased domestic production.

## The first six months

For the first half of 2026, net sales were $14.4 million and operating losses were $11.3 million. The same period of 2025 showed net revenues of $18.7 million and operating losses of $9.8 million. The release says the larger operating loss was driven by lower revenue and by higher operating expenses, which rose 10.0% primarily because of donation expense. Domestic revenues decreased 25.8% for the six months, and domestic unit sales decreased 25.0%. International revenues decreased 9.3%, and overall unit sales decreased 21%.

Domestic production increased to 42.4% of the units manufactured in the first six months of 2026, compared with 38% for the first six months of 2025. Tariff expenses were approximately $58 thousand in the first half of 2026. The company reported a net loss of $1.4 million for the six months, which includes the same $6.4 million gain on the sale of equity securities. The provision for income taxes was $3.7 thousand, compared with a benefit for income taxes of $288 thousand in the same period of 2025.

## Cost actions and seasonality

The release says an April 2026 reduction in force is expected to save costs in future periods, and that tariffs may continue to materially affect costs.

The release notes that most flu season sales typically occur in the third quarter, and that unusually high flu season unit sales in the second quarter of 2025 affect comparisons with 2026, when purchasing followed a more traditional pattern.

## Financial position

The company's SEC XBRL financial data show revenue of $38.3 million for fiscal 2025 and $33.0 million for fiscal 2024, as reported in its 10-K filed on March 27, 2026. Net loss was $12.6 million for fiscal 2025, compared with $11.9 million for fiscal 2024. Cash from operations was negative $7.1 million in fiscal 2025 and negative $11.6 million in fiscal 2024. Research and development expense was $675,567 in fiscal 2025 and $673,944 in fiscal 2024. Year-end cash and cash equivalents were $4.2 million at the end of fiscal 2024. The data also state that cash and cash equivalents were $2.6 million at June 30, 2026, according to the company's 10-Q. The company has lost money from operations in each period shown, and the figures given do not say how the losses will be funded.
