# IDEAYA's eye cancer drug is near the market. The pipeline must do the rest

Darovasertib beat standard care in a randomized trial and an NDA is under way. With $1.24 billion in cash, IDEAYA is now betting on lung and pancreatic cancer programs to grow beyond a small market.

## The technology

IDEAYA is a precision oncology company. It picks cancers defined by a specific genetic change and builds drugs, mostly oral small molecules plus a few antibody drug conjugates, to exploit that change. Its pipeline is built on [synthetic lethality and ADCs](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526331381/idya-ex99_1.htm).

The lead drug, darovasertib, inhibits PKC, the signal that runs downstream of the GNAQ and GNA11 mutations found in nearly all uveal melanomas. Given with crizotinib, a cMET inhibitor, it beat investigator's choice in the randomized OptimUM-02 trial: median progression-free survival was [6.9 months versus 3.1 months](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526331381/idya-ex99_1.htm), hazard ratio 0.42. Behind it are IDE849, a [DLL3 antibody drug conjugate](https://ir.ideayabio.com/2026-08-31-IDEAYA-Biosciences-Announces-Successful-FDA-Type-C-Meeting-for-IDE849,-DLL3-TOP1-ADC,-on-Phase-3-Registrational-Trial-Design-for-Potential-Accelerated-and-Full-Approval-in-Extensive-Stage-Small-Cell-Lung-Cancer) for small cell lung cancer, and IDE892, a [PRMT5 inhibitor](https://ir.ideayabio.com/2026-08-19-IDEAYA-Biosciences-Announces-Clinical-Collaboration-with-Genentech-in-MTAP-Deleted-KRAS-G12D-Mutant-Pancreatic-Cancer) for MTAP-deleted tumors that IDEAYA is pairing with two Roche RAS drugs.

## The odds

Darovasertib has done the hard part. A positive randomized registrational trial and an application under the FDA's real-time oncology review program put it in the final stage, where historical data show [90.6% of filed drugs win approval](https://go.bio.org/rs/490-EHZ-999/images/ClinicalDevelopmentSuccessRates2011_2020.pdf). IDEAYA expects to [complete the submission in the second half of 2026](https://ir.ideayabio.com/2026-10-19-IDEAYA-Biosciences-and-Servier-Announce-Data-From-Three-Clinical-Trials-at-ESMO-2026-Supporting-the-Potential-of-Darovasertib-to-Become-a-Foundational-New-Therapy-for-Patients-Across-the-Treatment-Journey-of-Uveal-Melanoma). Overall survival data were immature at the cutoff, with an interim analysis due in mid-2027.

The rest of the pipeline is earlier. IDE849 has an [FDA-aligned phase 3 design](https://ir.ideayabio.com/2026-08-31-IDEAYA-Biosciences-Announces-Successful-FDA-Type-C-Meeting-for-IDE849,-DLL3-TOP1-ADC,-on-Phase-3-Registrational-Trial-Design-for-Potential-Accelerated-and-Full-Approval-in-Extensive-Stage-Small-Cell-Lung-Cancer) but no data yet from IDEAYA's own trial. IDE892 has not reported human efficacy data. Phase 3 programs historically reach a filing [57.8% of the time](https://go.bio.org/rs/490-EHZ-999/images/ClinicalDevelopmentSuccessRates2011_2020.pdf), and phase 1 programs reach phase 2 52.0% of the time.

## The money

IDEAYA had [about $1.24 billion in cash and securities at June 30, 2026](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526331381/idya-ex99_1.htm) after a June offering that raised [$323.4 million net](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526332774/idya-20260630.htm). It guides to runway into 2030. Operating activities used [$163.4 million in the first half](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526332774/idya-20260630.htm), and second-quarter R&D spending was $108.7 million. Revenue is collaboration income from Servier, which holds darovasertib rights outside the U.S. and shares development costs.

## The risks

The main risk is market size. GlobalData analysts forecast [$709 million of darovasertib sales by 2032](https://www.clinicaltrialsarena.com/analyst-comment/asco-2026-darovasertib-metastatic-uveal-melanoma/) and call the metastatic market small. Immunocore's Kimmtrak already serves HLA-A*02:01-positive patients. Growth depends on earlier settings: the adjuvant phase 3 [OptimUM-11 dosed its first patient in September](https://ir.ideayabio.com/2026-09-09-IDEAYA-Biosciences-and-Servier-Announce-First-Patient-Dosed-in-OptimUM-11-Global-Phase-3-Registrational-Trial-of-Darovasertib-and-Crizotinib-as-Adjuvant-Therapy-for-Subjects-with-Uveal-Melanoma), and IDEAYA may skip a full neoadjuvant phase 3 and seek [guideline inclusion](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526331381/idya-ex99_1.htm) instead.

IDEAYA has [not generated any revenue from product sales](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526332774/idya-20260630.htm) and has never launched a drug. Its pipeline beyond darovasertib depends on early combination data in hard cancers such as pancreatic and small cell lung cancer.

## Our read

IDEAYA has one drug near the finish line, a strong balance sheet and a broad set of follow-on bets. Darovasertib looks likely to reach the U.S. market. The bigger question is whether a rare eye cancer can support the company's spending, or whether IDE849 and the MTAP programs must carry the next stage. The NDA completion, IDE849's first data and the November R&D day are the next tests.

The company has moved its spending toward those bets. In August it said it may rely on [published neoadjuvant data](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1676725/000119312526331381/idya-ex99_1.htm) instead of finishing the OptimUM-10 phase 3, and could shift money to the DLL3 registrational trial and MTAP and KRAS combinations. Its partnership choices point the same way: two [Roche Group supply deals](https://ir.ideayabio.com/2026-08-19-IDEAYA-Biosciences-Announces-Clinical-Collaboration-with-Genentech-in-MTAP-Deleted-KRAS-G12D-Mutant-Pancreatic-Cancer) give IDE892 access to RAS-directed partners without a license fee. That is a sensible use of cash for a company of this size, but it means IDEAYA's value in 2027 and 2028 will depend on early oncology data, which historically fails more often than it succeeds. A clean darovasertib launch would give it time and revenue to absorb those failures.
